How do I redirect a domain name to an affiliate link?

Okay.  Our next that’s come in is, “How do I redirect a domain name to an affiliate link?”  That’s an excellent question and I think it’s an important one because a lot of times, when you’re working with affiliate marketing, it’s really powerful and effective for you to use a full domain in order to redirect you to another website.  That way, it’s a little bit better for conversions and it’s easier for you to remember long term and it looks better for your reader to click on.

How long should I register my domains for?

Basically you can register your domains for just one year if you wish and if you do so, I strongly recommend that you put it on auto renew if your domain registrar allows that to happen.  Auto renew will automatically re-bill you the next year.

What options should I buy when I register a domain name?

The next question is, “What options should I buy when I register a domain name?  Do I need all the extra stuff?”  The kind of things that you typically see offered to you at any type of domain service are things like registration privacy, getting an extra e-mail account, getting SSL certification, getting a certified domain, getting business registration, etc.  Basically, you can ignore all of those if you wish to.  There’s no inherent need for you to get any extras when it comes to registering your domain name.  I recommend that you register your domain name for two years and you should not add on anything else unless you’re working from home and you have no business address.

Where should I register my domains?

Okay, our third question is a common one that I hear often with Internet marketing and promoting your business online, “Where should I register my domains?”  There are a lot of different domain registrars out there.  A domain registrar is a company that registers domains for you.  They often go through a centralized service.  I’ve used a lot of different services.  I’ve used BulkRegister.  I’ve used Namecheap.  I’ve used Go Daddy.  I’ve used One World Hosting.

Should I register my domain with my webmaster or the hosting company?

Okay, next question, “Should I register my domain with my webmaster or the hosting company?”  Excellent question and I think this is one of those things that really cause headaches down the road.  If you have your webmaster register your domain name for you, you may be okay but if your webmaster goes out of business or can no longer be reached, you may have a hard time working with your domain in the future.  When it comes up for renewal, especially if it expires, if your webmaster has registered the domain name, you might have absolutely no right to the domain name whatsoever.

Should I register a domain before I have a product?

So let’s start off first with “Should I register a domain before I have a product?”  Excellent question, and my answer is absolutely, yes.  Everybody’s first domain should be their own name.  You want to register your name or some variation of it because no matter what you do in business, you will always be a central role player in it.
