How do I know what to post up on my personal profile page when my business contacts can see it?

This usually comes up when you have a very different type of lifestyle between your personal and your business lives.  For example, as a teacher – this isn’t the way I live, but let’s say as a teacher – I was very much by the rules and everything had to be this way and that way and very clear cut and very focused and everything was by the book.  Then on the weekends, I was partying.  I was drinking my head off.  I was throwing up all the time.  I had parties with big bong hits going on with pot and all this stuff.  Again, that has nothing to do with the real truth for me, but if I had those two things up then obviously I would have a big problem keeping my job.

Should I RSVP to events?

When you get notifications in Facebook, it might get quite annoying.  How many events do you get invited to that have nothing to do with whatever you signed up to Facebook for.  I know that I see that all the time and it is kind of a pain.  But before you completely disregard event invitations, I want to encourage you to RSVP at least as a maybe, if not as a no.  Because at an event page, depending on how the person who’s running that even has it set up, people who respond to the RSVP actually show up on the event page.

How do I actually get a Facebook URL?

You may notice on television when there are companies advertising, they are often advertising Facebook.com, and then whatever the name of their company is.  About a year ago, Facebook only allowed big companies to do that, but a few months ago they opened this up to everybody else – it’s called a vanity URL on Facebook.  If you are an active Facebook member, you can actually get a unique URL that’s just for you that starts with Facebook.com/, and then whatever your username is.  For example, mine is Facebook.com/BobJenkins; and then your fan page can also have a URL by itself – so I have Facebook.com/BobtheTeacher.

What’s the difference between a fan page and a regular profile?

Well a fan page is something that you typically organize around a brand or a person that is relatively well known, or even a product.  You have to be in control of that brand or product and if you have a particular website or service or something like this, you might create a fan page because of it.  A regular profile is about you as an individual person and the two can be run in tandem if you are an expert – like I’m teaching you to become if you’re not already – because you want to make sure that people can find you easily.  A couple advantages of a fan page:  you can have unlimited numbers of people connected to your page – those are called fans as opposed to friends; for your personal profile you’re limited to 5,000 friends – your fan page is unlimited.

How can I get more friends on Facebook

You have a limit of up to 5,000.  Some people struggle to get the first 500, and I want to help address that for you because the more connected that you are on Facebook, the wider your reach.  Now Facebook is, at its heart, an organizing force for people who have known each other through some form of previous life experience.  I don’t mean like past life, I mean prior to where you are right now.
