What’s the most important thing to split test?

That’s probably one of the things I get asked the most so I’m glad this is one of the questions today.  Basically, when you want to look at split testing, there certainly is a priority list of things you want to split test before other things and I think that the very first thing you should be split testing is definitely the headline.  You definitely want to split test the headline.  You want to change the words. You want to say what you want to say in different ways.

How can I split test my opt-in form?

That’s an awesome question too because this is probably the one thing that you can do really easily and you already probably have the software to do it.  Most auto responder services have a way for you to split test for your opt-in form.  I’m using Aweber bestemaildelivery.com.  I’ve talked to you about that during an earlier week of these seminars and basically when you go to a web form you can make as many different versions of a web form as you want and then you go to the split test feature within Aweber and you tell the software to run, on each individual form, a certain percentage of the time.

What if I want to test more than one thing at a time?

Well, that’s a good question.  We just asked…  The idea of an AB split test, what happens if you have more than one variable that you’d like to control or that you’d like to change?  Well, if you’re dealing with a limited amount of software or you’re using Aweber or something like this for your opt-in split test, it is very difficult for you to do more than one variable at a time but there is software available that lets you do multiple variables at a time.

What is an AB split test?

Basically, an AB split test is when you take a particular version of what you’re going to test and you just make a different version of it and you only change one individual part.  Let me be more specific to give you a better sense of what I mean.  Let’s say you want to split test an opt-in page and the thing that you want to change is the headline.  So one headline says, Discover the Five Ways to Lose Belly Fat in Ten Weeks and then that you think would be a really good headline but in order for you to know for sure it’s a good headline you want to split test it so the second version is something like, Lose Belly Fat in Only Ten Weeks.  Secrets Finally Revealed or something like that.  That would be version number two so the A version of your split test would be your first headline and the B version is your second.  You leave everything else about your opt-in page the same.  You make no other changes.

Why would I want to split test?

Well, if you want to get the same results you always get without knowing how to improve them or if you want to make changes to your website and have things happen but you have no idea whether they’re good or bad , then you certainly do not want to split test.  But, if you are the kind of person who wants to see how little tiny changes can make big differences for your marketing, especially for your conversions, then you’re going to definitely want to incorporate split testing.
